Passive Income: Getting Started

Welcome to NetPassiveIncome.com - a blog that have taught thousands of people on how to build passive income using the internet.

There are many ways to make money online, but to truly build internet income streams that you can count on you have to start with the right business model - develop niche websites selling information products.

If you are ready to get started, here are the 6 steps you need to take to start your own information product business:

Step 1: Choose a market & 5-minute market Litmus Test
Step 2: Identify a desire or problem
Step 3: Develop the product
Step 4: Get testimonials
Step 5: Write up your sales message
Step 6: Drive traffic to your sales message

Tip: Go at your own pace, but do follow the blueprint I've laid out for you - DO NOT GIVE UP! Your first passive income project may flop, and that is perfectly OK.

XETQ.COM For Sale

I'm trying to raise some fund for my next project (a kick-ass membership script) and I'm selling off some of my domain collections.

XETQ.COM being one of them and I've just listed it on eBay.  Bidding starts at 1¢ and has no reserve.

Since you are reading my blog, I will also give my word that the winner of the auction will also receive the membership script (at least a $100 value) for free as a token of my appreciation for your patronage.

Whereas osCommerce is one of the best eCommerce scripts, it is my goal for osMember to be the best software for running a membership site.

Stay tuned...

Out with the old, in with the new

I've finally got around to change my blog's theme.  You'll probably recognize the old theme:

netpassiveincome-screenshot-basic-theme

Here is the new theme - and I hope you'll like it better:

netpassiveincome-screenshot-cherrytruffle-theme1

The new theme is from the designer of Elegant Themes and he really knows his stuff.  I paid $19.95 per YEAR to be in his theme club and he designs a new theme each month (great value, I highly recommend it!)

Another bit of news - I've decided to expand on this blog to talk about not just passive income, but my other interests as well, such as running an internet business and various other topics that follows suit (outsourcing, internet marketing, etc.).  Occasionally I may also throw in topics such as money management, investing in real estate and domain names.

I'm combining these topics together so I don't have to worry about keeping multiple blogs - or having to start another blog just for a different, but somewhat related topic.  This will also allow me to blog more frequently and quickly, which I'm sure you will find beneficial.

If you don't have a blog, I strongly urge you to start one - I recently published an article on how to start a blog on HowToStartABlog.com (how fitting!) which shows you step-by-step how you can start a blog from complete scratch in under 15 minutes.

You'll want to get your own blog if you are serious about your business (either offline, or online).  In the near future I'm also thinking of turning off commenting on this blog and opening up trackbacks as the only way to communicate wtih me (which also helps reciprocal linking for both you and I).

More to come...

Passive Income From Silent Sales Machine 2

Since I'm in the process of developing my product that will teach my readers how to earn passive income on the internet, I'm going to resort to recommending other people's product/service for now.

Just so you know, this almost-ending auction on eBay is high on my watchlist and I'm currently the high bidder as well at the time of this writing (at $6,550).

If you have $10,000 to spare (I believe it will go up that high), then you should consider outsource your next (or first?) eBook project to Jim Cockrum.

Notice I said "outsource" because he's doing 95% of the work for you, PLUS he'll market it for you AND future JV opportunities.  Talk about an almost all-inclusive service that Jim is providing.  Granted, he's using this opportunity to build up his portfolio but this presents a win-win situation.

Keep your eyes on this one!

[4/26/09 update]  Although I came close to winning the auction (my max. bid was $31,000), I have to admit that there were a few momemts in the last minute bidding frenzy when I felt I could better invest the $30k somewhere else!

Nevertheless, a great auction for Jim and an excellent investment for the winning bidder... Congratulations!

Create Passive Income With Autopilot Commission

This just out - John Reese's Opportunity.com (great domain name I might add!) - a membership website designed to teach people how to make money with affiliate marketing the "right" way.

Here is what it says from the website:

Most marketers make affiliate marketing far too difficult than it really needs to be. Making money from affiliate programs is easy if you know some proven fundamentals and how to automate them to 'work' for you.

If you're serious about growing your income online then you need to know how to make maximum money by promoting affiliate programs.

If you want to generate affiliate commissions on auto-pilot then take a few minutes to watch my quick training video where I show you how to create your own moneymaking 'Affiliate Commission Engine' by entering your email address in the field to the right...

I've always been a big preacher on passive income so I thought this may be fitting for my readers who want to get their hands wet with generating "affiliate income on auto-pilot by setting up a simple (yet powerful) 'affiliate commission engine'"

Passive Income From Silent Sales Machines

Today I'm recommending a program that will help you make passive income online.  A program that teaches you how to build niche websites and sell information products - all on autopilot, thus "Silent Sales Machines."

Like most people who are just starting out (and people who have been at it for a long time but haven't quite figured it out) in their internet business, I've joined many internet marketing/business membership sites and purchased tons and tons of ebooks and reports, and even paid several high-ticket mentors and coaching programs.

The end result is that I was simply overwhelmed.  In fact, I've taken action that was not productive at all because it was not focused action - there are simply too many internet business models that will all make money if I had really just stuck with one and take massive action.

One hour I find myself reading a sales letter or a free video on how to make tons of money from running your own membership sites; one hour I find myself reading a sales letter on how to be filthy rich from building and flipping websites or domains; one hour I find myself wanting to buy a software that promises to make money for you; one hour I find myself going through forums to learn how other people are making their money; one hour I find myself looking at sales page and said to myself, "oh, this is it!" - at the end of the day I wondered why I didn't make any money today!  If this is you, STOP!

Just remember that we all have just 24 hours in a day (about 8 - 10 hours that are really usable discounting rest time, eating time, etc.) and majority of us decide to work and get paid an hourly wage one-time and the same thing next day.  I beg to differ.  I want to get paid multiple times for the same 8 hours I work each day - wouldn't you want that, too?  That's the mentality that separates the employees from employers.

I want you to start focusing on one type of business model, and knock the sh*t out of it before moving on to the next business.  I don't care what "business" you are working on right now - website flipping, niche sites, PPC affiliate marketing, membership site - focus on one and make it profitable enough to a point where you can outsource the business process and still remain profitable.  Remember, you should work on building a business system, not just a worker in your system.

Now, If you don't have a "model" that you are working on, then I highly recommend you go through Adam Short's Niche Profit Classroom.  It costs only $47/month and teaches you a system to start your own profitable, and outsource-ready information product business (same business that well-know internet marketers are in, such as John Reese, Frank Kern, Ed Dale... just to name a few).

If you've been a long-time reader of my blog then you'll know that I hardly recommend anything, unless it's something that I really believe and fits along the line of generating passive income online.  In fact, I believe in Adam's business model that he teaches so much that I'm willing to throw in my BacklinkShop.com service if you sign up and go through Adam's program via this link:

Niche Profit Class - The Silent Sales Machines That Generates Income On Autopilot

Just email me your receipt and I'll set you up for a free account on BacklinkShop.com which will further help you promote your niche websites.

Last but not least, take action today!

Passive Income From Passive Traffic

Today I'm going to share with you a simple online publishing business you can get into for yourself to generate passive income online.

Step 1:  Decide on a market/niche

As a test, I chose the wedding market (a huge market by the way) and registered somewedding.com (if you want to register domains, I recommend http://www.wholesalerdomains.com)

You can go with any marketing/topic you want.

Step 2:  Build the site

I used WordPress script for pretty much all of my content sites.  Just login to your cPanel (If you need an affordable hosting, try GuruCS's $5/month web hosting) in your hosting account and use Fantastisco to click-install the wordpress script.  It is really easy and you can literally have a site up under 15 minutes.

You can go with the default template that comes with the WordPress install or you can install a different theme (for free) by going to http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

Step 3:  Keyword Research

In the case of my wedding site, I intended to focus on "low-hanging fruits" or longtail keywords that have very little competition (competition = how many other webmasters who also have webpages focusing on the same keywords as you are).

Make yourself a list of keywords and proceed to step 4.

Step 4:  Write content to incorporate your longtail keywords

If the keyword allows, use it as your article title.  If not, try to incorporate your keywords inside the article itself.  Remember, since these are longtail keywords, they don't need to be "optimized" as much - I find that simply having your keyword mentioned in your article will get it ranked well in the search engines.

Step 5:  Place monetization on your site

How are you going to make money from your site?  In case of my wedding site, I simpled used Google Adsense program (I'm selling advertising space on my website).  You may choose to sell an actual product or service (your own or affiliate).  But the point is, you have to sell something.

Step 6:  Promotion! Promotion! And more promotion!

This is vital to the success/failure of your site.  In order to get visibility and high ranking in the search engines, you have to get noticed.  There are several ways to do this and these are my favorite:

  • Browse other blogs relevant to your site and start making comments and leave your website URL behind
  • Submit the article you wrote to other article directories or blog network

Promotion activities can be very time consuming and that is why I highly recommend you use our link building service BackLinkShop.com (Use the coupon code "netpassiveincome" to get a $5/month off discount).

Step 7:  Reinvest and Rinse and Repeat!

Once you start making money with one site, start another!

There you have it!  I know this is just an overview and I have left out a lot of "how-to" information but given the time/space constraint on my blog this is simply not possible.  Would anybody be interested that I put together a PDF or video course that details how to do each of the steps?  Make a comment and you shall have it when it is available.

Be sure to subscribe to my blog to get the latest annoucements.

Is Your Site One Of The Top 1 Million On The Internet?

If you haven't heard, Alexa has made available a list of top 1 million sites for download:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/alexa-static/top-1m.csv.zip

This list is updated daily and is a valuable resource if you know how to take advantage of it.  Just visit alexa.com and the download link should be on the left-hand sidebar.

For pay-per-click affiliate marketers, I would imagine you can go through each site on the list, see if they have an affiliate program, and for ones that do, register the www[domain name].com version of the site (of course, watch out for trademark infringement - perform a search first)

Then you could bid on PPC that domain name as the keyword and direct the user back to the "real" site with your affiliate link.  This technique is explained better than my own words in the Arbitrage Conspiracy report (download it free here) - if you are not into PPC, get it anyway because it will open your eyes to a $50k to $100k PROFIT per DAY business on the internet... Yes, you read that right, per DAY!

The top 1 million sites list is also an excellent opportunity for domainers to register typo's (within legal parameters).  By the way, if you want to get started in the domaining business, make sure you subscribe to Domaining.com's free newsletter.

If you have a product or server that you want to sell, use the list to find out if any of these sites have a target market audience that will buy from you and strike up a private advertising deal with them (by going direct you cut out the middleman/broker).

I have 2 questions for you:

1.  What other good ideas can you think of using the top 1 million sites list?

2.  What is the motivation behind Alex offering this list?

Do You Have $3,000,000 To Spare?

Just found an excellent web property that's being auctioned off on eBay - Debate.com For Sale For $3,000,000 minimum.

A while ago I talked about making passive income on autopilot by developing and marketing your own user generated websites - and debate.com is a classic example of such site that you can create using open source scripts such as WordPress or Joomla (By the way, if you are looking for web developers, please contact me, I have a staff of excellent web programmers and application developers for very affordable prices).

I hope this auction will inspire you to set up your own user generated content or community site. You can use your favorite keyword research tool and type in "debate" and get other "niche" debate community site ideas, such as "evolution vs. creation debate" or the "school uniforms debate" - that's how you can compete with the big guys, unless you have $3,000,000 to spare :)

Once you established your presence in a niche debate, you can then expand your debate topic to other areas of interest.

Anyway, back to the auction, I had put in a 5-figure bid and I'd be damn lucky to get it at such a low price.

Here is a question for you:

How much would you buy the debate.com website/domain/intellectual property for?

Missed Fortune 101: A Starter Kit To Becoming A Millionaire

Investing your money correctly is part of the success formula in building wealth and passive income for the rest of your life.

A while ago I took interest in becoming a financial advisor and one of the selling tools is recommending prospective clients to read "Missed Fortune 101" by Douglas R. Andrew. While there are many good reviews, there are also many critics who thought the author is misleading the general public, even fooled financial advisors by his "fuzzy" math and taking chunks of tax codes.

If you have read the book, or have started reading it, I'd like to know your thoughts. Good or bad, please post your thoughts in the comment box below.

If you are new to the book and would like to own it, I have 2 used copies (in good condition) that I'm prepared to give away to my blog readers (currently sold on Amazon for $16 and change). Here is what you will need to do:

1. Subscribe to my blog by filling in your name/email to the box on the right upper sidebar.

2. Read another post on my blog, choose one you like the most and write about it on your blog, online forum, or your myspace/facebook/friendster page. Then submit a comment to to this post with the URL where I can see what you did.

3. I will pick 2 lucky winners and mail a copy of the book free of charge to winners - I'll even pay shipping. Honestly I do not know how much interest this will generate but I will tentatively select a winner on 10/31, Halloween.

Please note that I'm not endorsing the book nor the author. I'm also not selling you any financial vehicles or investments - I just have 2 extra copies that I'd like to give away.

Outsmart The Marketers

If you want to build a list of marketers (internet marketers in particular) then you want to be 2 steps ahead of them.

What do I mean by that? Put yourself in these marketers' shoes. Where do internet marketers hang out? What forums do marketers visit? What activities do marketers do regularly? (if you are not selling to marketers, just switch out the word "marketers" to your target audience).

By answer those questions, it will give you an idea of where to place yourself.

Where do internet marketers hang out?
Warriorforum, digitalpoint, sitepoint, and many other private internet marketing communities (usually established by another internet marketers who sold a product or service).

You will then need to go to these forums and start participating - I recommend that even if you are not going to be very active in these forums, just go register for an account - you never know when an aged account will come in handy.

The other thing you can do is giveaway something of value in these forums, and ask for their contact information in exchange. This is both good and bad - sure, you will build your list fast because people love free stuff, but it could also mean they will never spend a dollar on anything you pitch to them because they are freebie seekers.

What activities do marketers do regularly?
What do marketers do? They market! What are some of the marketing activities? Build traffic to their sites/products/services, and what do they do to achieve that? Participating in forums, and leave their links behind, leave their links behind on various web properties such as article directory, link directory, press release, blog carnival, etc. So what you need to do is become the provider for these marketers - run your own article directory website, your own link directory website, your own press release announcement website, your own blog carnival, all offering free submission, but require them to register first.

Will this work outside of "internet marketers"?
You bet it will. Let's take another market - how about dog owners?

Where do dog owners hang out? Do a search on big-boards.com to find out!

What activities do dog owners do regularly?
Walk their dogs(?), show off their dog pictures on those "rate my dog" sites, and what else?

So, how do you exploit that? Take your dog to the dog park, and strike up a conversation such as, "Hey, have you read about... " and then get them to give you their email address, you would then go home and forward the article link (your own article site, or affiliate product site) to your new dog owner buddy, and give him/her the permission to forward it on to friends.

How do you exploit the tendency of people wanting to show off their pets? Run your own "rate my dog" site!

If you want customers, be among them, it just makes things so much easier!
